Aluminium Secondary Glazing

Secondary Glazing Designed for Bay Windows

Arctic Glaze was approached by a homeowner in Port Sunlight, a Merseyside village, who was concerned about heat loss and noise levels in their period property and wanted to install secondary glazing.

The property featured traditional metal casement windows with lead-lined single glazing, which the homeowner did not want to replace due to their listed status. Arctic Glaze was invited to design and install bespoke secondary glazing that would help to reduce heat loss and external noise without compromising the period aesthetic of the property.

During the site visit, Jonathan, the Managing Director of Arctic Glaze, showcased a range of Secondary Glazing samples and discussed the best way to install the proposed secondary glazing to achieve a discreet and unobtrusive aesthetic. The homeowner had also contacted other glazing companies, but was dissatisfied with the chunky frames and protruding handle hardware of their products.

As a result of superior customer service and the slimline aesthetic and function of the Secondary Glazing, Arctic Glaze was invited to complete the secondary glazing installation. To treat the main bay window at the front of the property, Arctic Glaze specified the installation of a three-pane horizontal slider, a slimline hinged unit, and a lift-out. The Secondary Glazing frames were coupled together using beveled timbers to provide a neat adjoining aesthetic.

Horizontal sliding secondary glazing is a popular and versatile system that is perfect for most domestic properties. It is available with a combination of two to five panels and features twin brush seals that provide optimum thermal and acoustic insulation. Horizontal sliders are commonly installed for wider windows and can be manufactured to over four meters wide where the slimline aluminum panels slide horizontally on durable brass rollers. For enhanced security, they feature a push-button locking mechanism that prevents the secondary glazing system from being opened from the exterior of the building.

"We were delighted with the work. Our period property has stone mullion windows with metal frames. While beautiful & characterful, they do let in a lot of draughts - and noise! We approached Jonathan on the strength of his reviews after quotes from local companies whose products we didn’t like and whose levels of customer service were not great. We’ve been pleased with the entire experience from start to finish. It began with our initial contact with Louisa in the office, who was consistently prompt and professional in arranging the initial quote. Jonathan spent 2 days on the installation. He was a pleasure to work with - exceptionally tidy and cleaned up carefully. Jonathan took considerable care working out a solution to a tricky bay window and the end result is great. We really like the product. It is about as discreet as you could realistically hope for in a secondary glazing solution and far nicer than the chunky horrors with huge handles that other providers suggested. We would highly recommend Arctic Glaze. Thank you Jonathan and Louisa!"
