Secondary Glazing - Camden

Secondary Glazing Blocks Noise – Camden

Arctic Glaze install bespoke secondary glazing to increase acoustic and thermal insulation for flats based in Camden.

Homeowners living in a conservation area or a listed building are often prohibited from altering their primary windows. This can cause problems for homes that have 4mm glass installed within their primary windows, this type of glass provides limited thermal and acoustic insulation. With a need to reduce heat loss and block noise entering the property, the homeowner contacted Arctic Glaze to understand what solutions were available. Upon consultation, hinged units and horizontal sliders were recommended with 6.4mm acoustic laminated glass. As the property houses slimline aluminium frames that pivot into the room with very little clearance, Arctic Glaze recommended the installation of secondary glazing without a timber surround. To allow the primary windows to open into the room, Arctic Glaze reduced the frame thickness on the secondary glazed system by 15mm, this allowed the primary window to remain functional and to be opened when required.

To create a neat visual aesthetic and to match the modern interior, the homeowner opted to have the secondary glazed system finished in anthracite grey (RAL 7016). Generally speaking, the installation of bespoke secondary glazing is a seamless process. Arctic Glazes range is designed to work in conjunction with most primary windows however, this particular project provided a true challenge. Maintaining the primary windows’ function was paramount, and Arctic Glaze was required to design, customise, and install a solution that provided enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation whilst maintaining and discreet aesthetic. The installation was well received by the homeowner as both the thermal and acoustic insulation was greatly improved. As security was not a concern, Arctic Glaze customised the secondary glazing by removing the locking fitch catches that are often installed onto the centre rail.

"Had a great experience with Arctic Glaze from start to finish. Louisa provided great assistance throughout the project, and Jonathan did a perfect job installing them in quite a tricky and challenging flat. The product looks stylish and were great value for money. I have recommended their services to the other tenants in my building!"
