Arctic Glaze has eliminated cold draughts, increased thermal insulation and reduced energy consumption for a Grade II Listed Cottage.
Period homes with single-glazed windows can often experience cold draughts and poor thermal insulation, this wasn’t an exception for this period property located in Milton Keynes. As a result, the homeowner contacted Arctic Glaze to help minimise heat loss with the installation of bespoke secondary glazing.
To provide enhanced thermal insulation, Arctic Glaze specified the installation of horizontal sliding and lift-out secondary glazing with 4mm toughened Low-E glass. The slimline secondary glazed systems were installed to the face of the primary timber casement windows, this type of installation is most suitable for homes that experience poor thermal insulation. The durable aluminium frames were powder-coated in Van Dyke Brown and white to match the colour of the primary windows.

Where heat loss is a concern, Low-E glass is often recommended as it reflects heat back into the room. A microscopic coating less than the thickness of a human hair is applied to the glass, this coating provides optimum thermal performance and often decreases heat loss by as much as 60%.
"With rising energy costs, homeowners are looking for ways to better insulate their homes - period properties often feature single glazed windows which offer minimal thermal insulation. As a result we have seen a large increase in homeowners specifying Secondary Glazing with Low-E glass, this speciality glass provides enhanced thermal insulation as it reflects heat back in to the room. As secondary glazing specialists we can help you to specify a secondary glazing product and glass specification most suitable for your home."
