Secondary Glazing designed for Period Properties

Greater London – Ickenham

The owners of Ickenham Farm house contacted us to see if we could combat the noise pollution suffered from a busy through road. The property had also suffered from recent development around it, once being a stand-alone dwelling it is now situated between two public houses.

Home Farm House was built around 1450 and was one of the first dwellings to be built in the village of Ickenham. The house was the centre of Home Farm for many years, is grade II listed and has the benefit of the outbuildings which were originally the stables and dairy for the farm. A timber-framed construction with wattle and daub infill and Home Farm House is thought to have originally been a Hall House because of how the timbers have been carved throughout. The property is steeped in history and at some point, it’s though part of the house was involved in a fire. This was then followed by a new elevation being added in 1705 (which has been etched into the bricks). At other times additions have been made to the back of the house to create the dwelling it is today.

The property was full of character and retained it’s traditional timber casement windows with a single glazed panel. Upon seeing this on the site survey we knew instantly we could make a difference to both acoustic and thermal performance with our Secondary Glazing systems.

We installed our sympathetically designed Heritage Horizontal Sliders throughout the property, using a 6.4mm laminated glass panel, which instantly restored the peace and tranquillity of old, completely eradicating the problem of road noise.

A thoroughly enjoyable project, it was a joy to work on such a beautiful home with such character and heritage. Arctic Glaze was extremely proud, our Secondary Glazing systems could help the owners to enjoy their property even more, seamlessly combining old and new to provide a quieter and warmer home.
