Secondary glazing for box sash windows

Bayham Street – Camden London

Arctic Glaze Ltd install bespoke secondary glazing to block noise while providing privacy with specialised satin glass

Located in the heart of Camden, this period property was built in the early 1800s and features traditional box sash windows. As the property is situated within a conservation area, the homeowner could not alter or change the single glazed primary windows. Noise entering the property was a significant concern where Arctic Glaze was contracted to relieve noise issues while providing increased levels of privacy.

To match the primary windows’ style and function, Arctic Glaze recommended the installation of vertical sliding secondary glazing with 6mm toughened glass. Specialised frosted glass was installed to the bottom of the secondary glazed system to prevent pedestrians from looking into the property.

To create a modern interior aesthetic, the homeowner wanted to install functional blinds within the window reveal. Our slimline secondary glazed system was installed to the primary windows’ face, which created the required space for the blinds to be installed. Balanced vertical sliders are often installed where traditional box sash windows are present, they match the style and function while providing a discreet and unobtrusive aesthetic. Our range of tilt-in balanced vertical sliders securely locks in place while offering an easy clean function. Both panels tilt into the room, giving access to the rear of the panels. The glazed panels are supported by durable spiral balances that allow them to remain open in any given position. The installation of secondary glazing provides a slim and versatile solution for homes that require enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation. It can be installed within all property types and is often advised by Historic England.

"Secondary glazing has grown in popularity as it offers increased levels of security and enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation. Homes that feature period windows with poor acoustic insulation will benefit from a secondary glazing installation where we provide tailored solutions to match the primary windows aesthetic and function. As secondary glazing specialists, we can customise the glazing system to provide a tailored thermal and acoustic solution”.

"Fantastic service from start to finish from Jonathan and Louisa, and a great product. Jonathan takes time to find out what you want--in this case secondary glazing for noise reduction in a period property--and is equally meticulous when it comes to installation. He even sent a text the following day to check the windows were working OK!”.
