Arched Secondary Glazing

Baptist Church Cirencester

Arctic Glaze transform a Grade II Listed Baptist Church into a peaceful and warm home with bespoke secondary glazing

Located in the centre of Cirencester, this Grade II listed Baptist church was built in 1856 to give the town locals a peaceful place to worship. Over 170 years later, the listed building was converted into a modern family home and required a discreet glazing solution to enhance thermal and acoustic insulation.

Arctic Glaze was contracted by Granada Secondary Glazing to discreetly install a range of secondary glazing products that were carefully designed and manufactured to match the shape of period lead-lined windows. Manufactured from durable aluminium, secondary glazing can be arched to match the shape of most windows and window reveals.

Secondary glazing was specified as it provides an effective solution to reduce heat loss substantially. Once installed, homeowners will often feel a difference in ambient temperature. The discreet secondary glazing installation prevents cold draughts from entering the property whilst reducing heat loss by 60%.

To provide full access to the primary windows for cleaning and maintenance, we recommended a range of heritage hinged units and two pane horizontal sliders. To combat heat loss and prevent cold draughts entering the property, a combination of 6mm toughened and 6.4mm laminated glass was installed.

Two Pane Horizontal Sliders
This discreet secondary glazing system slides on durable brass rollers where each panel can be individually lifted out. Horizontal sliding secondary glazing offers a seamless operation whilst providing a discreet and unobtrusive aesthetic.

Heritage Hinged Units
Heritage hinged units are a perfect solution to provide enhanced acoustic and thermal insulation, the glazed panels open into the room and can be arched to match the shape of most windows. They feature multi-point-locking and can be manufactured to accommodate larger windows.

The secondary glazing was powder coated in black and matching timber trims were scribed in-place to complement the property’s modern aesthetic.
