Secondary glazing with Double glazed Windows

Acoustic Insulation – Thirsk

Arctic Glaze Ltd has created a quiet home by installing noise-cancelling secondary glazing with bespoke acoustic tiles.

Noise from an adjacent road was problematic for this modern property with double glazed uPVC casement windows. The homeowner contacted Arctic Glaze Ltd to further understand how their bespoke secondary glazing could prevent noise emitted by vehicles as they passed their home.

Arctic Glaze’s survey highlighted a substantial amount of noise coming through the modern double glazing and the window reveals. To combat this, they recommended the installation of hinged units and vertical sliders installed with 6.4mm acoustic laminated glass.

To provide an enhanced acoustic solution, Arctic Glaze lined the window reveals with acoustic tiles that are designed to absorb noise emitted by close by vehicles. Arctic Glaze recommended a range of products that provided full access to the primary windows whilst maintaining the building’s modern aesthetics.

Arctic Glaze’s range of bespoke secondary glazing is manufactured from durable aluminium. It is specifically designed to prevent noise from entering your home whilst reducing heat loss.

Vertical sliders match the style and function of traditional box sash windows, the glazed panels are supported with durable spiral balances and can remain open in any given position.

As security was not a concern, Arctic Glaze customised the secondary glazing by removing the locking fitch catches that are often installed onto the centre rail.

"Homeowners traditionally believe that secondary glazing is designed only to be installed within listed buildings - this couldn't be further from the truth. Secondary glazing is commonly found within listed buildings however, homes that are built near main roads often suffer from noise issues. If correctly specified and installed with the right glass and air cavity we can reduce noise by as much as 80%. Secondary Glazing will also increase thermal insulation which reduces heat loss, this reduction in heat loss will reduce energy consumption and lead to lower heating costs"
