Arctic Glaze install secondary glazing to increase thermal insulation for an Edwardian house built in 1905

Owners of period properties can find it frustrating to keep their homes warm whilst maintaining its character. Period windows add to the aesthetic of period properties, but they often provide minimal thermal insulation.

Arctic Glaze was consulted to increase the thermal insulation whilst maintaining the visual aesthetics of the property. Upon survey, Arctic Glaze recommended the installation of balanced vertical sliders which match the style and function of traditional box sash windows. The glazed panels are supported by durable spiral balances which securely hold the panels in any open position.

In conjunction to the secondary glazing, Arctic Glaze advised the installation of 4mm toughened Low-E glass. This glass is designed to lower U-Values which in-turn increase thermal insulation. With a special coating, Low-E glass is designed to reflect heat back into the room which substantially increases thermal insulation and will lower energy consumption. As with most homes, not all windows are regularly used. For windows that don’t require to be opened, Arctic Glaze will suggest installing a lift out, lift outs provide a thermally efficient solution that is cost effective. The glazed panel can be lifted out of its aluminium outer-frame to give access for cleaning and maintenance.

We have partnered with the UK’s leading secondary glazing manufacturer (Granada Glazing) to ensure the products we recommend and install are the very best. We have a wide range of products that are suitable for all window styles and home types. When specifying secondary glazing it is important to understand the intended function. We would always recommend a solution that is slimline and minimises the visual impact on the buildings aesthetics.
