Student Accommodation located in Nottingham specifies Secondary Glazing to minimise heat loss.
A newly renovated student accommodation facility located in the heart of Nottingham required bespoke secondary glazing to combat heat loss and improve thermal insulation. As a result, the main contractor contacted Arctic Glaze Ltd to specify, design and install a slimline Secondary Glazing package which included horizontal sliding, vertical sliding and arched secondary glazing.
The Grade II Listed building features original box sash single-glazed timber windows, to help minimise heat loss and increase thermal insulation, we recommended the installation of 6.4mm laminated Low-E glass. As our slimline secondary glazing is manufactured from aluminium, we are able to arch the secondary glazing frames to match most window shapes.
15 Days
104 Windows
Over a 15-day period, we designed and installed 104 slimline secondary glazed windows. To preserve the building’s original aesthetics, we designed a range of vertical sliders with arched heads to match the original shape of the windows. The glazed panels open vertically and are self-supporting, meaning they will safely remain in place when in any open position, they are supported by durable spiral balances and provide a smooth, secure and quiet operation.
"We were delighted to be invited to carry out this secondary glazing installation for this renovated student accommodation facility. Bespoke secondary glazing is often specified where heat loss and thermal insulation is a concern, our range of bespoke secondary glazing can be customised to include speciality glass designed to provide increased levels of thermal insulation.
Working on a project with shaped windows requires total accuracy, we take multiple measurements and create a template of the arched window, this template is then used to create the arched secondary glazing frame. We are pleased with the final aesthetics and improvements that the secondary glazing installation has made to thermal insulation, the arched windows look great and function like the primary timber windows".Jonathan Mott - Managing Director
