Arctic Glaze was contacted by the property manager of a Grade II Listed residential property to discuss how the installation of Secondary Glazing could help reduce heat loss and minimise external noise.
Heat loss and noise levels are often a concern for homeowners of listed properties that feature original single-glazed windows. With an unpredictable energy market and current high energy costs, period property owners are turning to secondary glazing to help increase insulation and lower energy consumption. With this in mind, Arctic Glaze was contacted by a property manager in Buxton to discuss the benefits that Slimline Secondary Glazing provides.
Arctic Glaze visited the property to showcase their range of Secondary Glazing and to advise on a proposed system to maintain the visual aesthetics of the period property while increasing thermal and acoustic insulation.

The homeowners wanted to increase thermal insulation without altering the building’s period features, they were concerned about the visual impact that the secondary glazing installation would have on the property. As a result, Arctic Glaze recommended the installation of slimline horizontal sliding secondary glazing. The secondary glazing was designed to be installed within the interior window reveals and as close to the primary windows as possible. This installation method provides optimum thermal insulation and makes the secondary glazing installation invisible for the exterior of the building.
The secondary glazing frames were powder coated in white to complement the white box sash windows and to blend in with the interior aesthetic. The glazed panels slide on durable brass rollers where each glazed panel can be individually lifted out of the outer frame allowing you to easily clean the rear of the secondary glazed panels and to provide total access to the primary windows for cleaning, maintenance and ventilation.
The concerned homeowners were delighted with the final results and performance achieved by the secondary glazing installation. The installation delivered a discreet aesthetic while substantially increasing both thermal and acoustic performance. The homeowners have already noted a decrease in noise levels and condensation, in winter months they can expect to see a fall in energy consumption resulting in lower energy costs. Arctic Glaze was pleased to be selected to work on this period property and to be trusted to supply and install their slimline secondary glazed system.
