Meadowhall bus station installs secondary glazing to increase thermal insulation and reduce heating costs.
Located in the heart of Sheffield, Meadowhall is one of the UK’s largest shopping centres and is home to some of the world’s most luxurious brands. Arctic Glaze was contracted by Granada Glazing to install bespoke aluminium secondary glazing to increase thermal insulation and to provide a neater room aesthetic.
Secondary glazing acts as a second barrier and is designed to block noise and seal in the warmth. Through increasing thermal insulation, a commercial building will become energy efficient, decreasing heat loss will lower energy consumption which in turn reduces heating costs.
To treat the existing aluminium casement primary windows, Arctic Glaze installed coupled 2 pane horizontal sliders. This durable secondary glazing system is designed to provide full access to the primary window whilst offering enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation.

Horizontal sliders are designed to be installed with casement windows where each individual panel can be lifted out. Being able to lift out the secondary glazed panels gives full access to the primary window and also allows the rear of the secondary glazed panels to be cleaned.
The glazed panels slide from left to right on durable brass rollers which once in a closed position will securely lock in place providing enhanced security. The secure aluminium frames can also be powder coated in over 200 RAL colours, the powder-coated finish is scratch resistant and requires minimal maintenance.
To offer optimum thermal performance, each secondary glazed panel is installed with an insulating wool pile, when each panel is closed the wool pile creates an insulating seal which leads to a significant increase in thermal insulation. Arctic Glaze’s range of bespoke aluminium secondary glazing can be customised to meet the thermal or acoustic requirements of the project, to ensure optimum performance and to provide privacy, the horizontal sliders were installed with 6mm stippolyte glass.
