Secondary Glazing for Apartments

Luxury Apartments – Birmingham

A derelict public house has been renovated into thermally efficient luxury apartments with custom aluminium secondary glazing

Situated in the heart of Birmingham and next to a busy main road, this derelict public house has been converted into several luxury apartments. Arctic Glaze was contracted by Granada Glazing to install a thermally efficient solution to enhance the building’s thermal and acoustic insulation. To complement the period box sash windows, Arctic Glaze recommended the installation of heritage tilt-in balanced vertical sliders.

Balanced vertical sliders are designed and manufactured to match the style and function of period box sash windows. The glazed panels are supported by durable spiral balances which safely hold the panel in place in any open position, they are robust and designed to take large panes of glass making them the perfect solution to treat large box sash windows. Each panel can tilt into the room giving access to the primary window, this tilt-in function makes cleaning the rear of the secondary glazing system simple.

Balanced vertical sliders provide optimum acoustic performance and can block up to 80% of noise entering the building. For enhanced thermal insulation, Q-lon strips are installed between the glazed panels and slimline aluminium outer frame. The Q-lon strips prevent cold draughts from entering the building whilst sealing in the warm air from within, as a result, heat loss is reduced leading to lower energy consumption and costs.

Arctic Glaze’s range of balanced vertical sliders are manufactured from durable aluminium and can be powder coated in over 200 RAL colours to complement all room aesthetics and designs. They feature a discreet locking fitch catch that is located on centre rail, when in a closed position the secondary glazing can’t be opened from the exterior of the building and will help prevent unauthorised access to the property.

Correctly fitted secondary glazing acts as a second barrier to significantly reduce heat loss, prevent draughts and block noise from entering the property. As secondary glazing specialists, Arctic Glaze can recommend a secondary glazed system that is designed to retain the character of the property whilst providing enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation.
