Arctic Glaze helped a homeowner in Thornhaugh to minimise heat loss and improve thermal insulation for their Grade II Listed Property.
Secondary glazing is an ideal solution for period property owners who are worried about heat loss and thermal insulation, it is specifically designed to preserve the character and charm of the property while retaining heat. Concerned with heat loss, the homeowner contacted Arctic Glaze to understand how their Secondary Glazing could be customised to match the window shape and aesthetic of their Grade II Listed Home.
During the on-site survey, Jonathan from Arctic Glaze recommended the installation of shaped lift-outs and hinged secondary glazing. Lift Out secondary glazing is a common solution for windows that do not require frequent access. The glazed panels can be easily lifted out of the outer frame, providing access to the primary window. However, for windows that require frequent access for ventilation, lift-out secondary glazing may not be the best solution. In such cases, hinged secondary glazing is often recommended.

Hinged secondary glazing is often used to improve the energy efficiency and insulation of casement windows. The glazed panels are supported by durable hinges that allow the secondary glazing panel to open outwards into the room, providing easy access to the primary window for rooms that require frequent ventilation.
Arctic Glaze offers a range of bespoke secondary glazing products, which are manufactured from durable aluminium and come in over 200 RAL different colours. The slimline frames are specifically designed to minimise heat loss, block noise, and enhance home security. Additionally, they can be tailored to fit arched windows like the one in this project.
In total, we installed three bespoke secondary glazed windows to treat the coldest areas in the house. The homeowner was delighted with the final aesthetic and function that the secondary glazing provided, and we are confident that it will retain heat and reduce heat loss in the cold months ahead.
