Arctic Glaze specialises in creating customised secondary glazing solutions that effectively reduce noise levels from busy roads.
A property in Walton on Thames faced noise issues due to its proximity to a busy road. The period single-glazed lead-lined timber windows were unable to provide adequate acoustic insulation. Arctic Glaze had previously treated some of the rooms in the house for noise, which yielded remarkable results. Impressed with our work, the homeowner, Jan, requested Arctic Glaze to treat the remaining windows.
This time, three arched hinged secondary glazing units, a 3-pane horizontal slider, and a 2-pane horizontal slider were designed and installed by Arctic Glaze, all fitted with a speciality 6.4mm Acoustic Laminated glass.

To preserve the original aesthetic and style of the primary windows, the slimline secondary glazing systems were designed to match each window’s unique style and function. The Hinged Secondary Glazing is particularly unobtrusive, with no transoms or mullions to obstruct the view. The glazed panel opens into the room, providing full access to your primary window for maintenance and cleaning. The Horizontal Sliders are versatile and slimline, with twin brush seals that provide optimum thermal and acoustic insulation. Each panel can be individually lifted out of the outer frame, making it easy to clean the rear of the panels and providing total access to the primary windows.
Manufactured from slimline powder-coated aluminium, Arctic Glaze’s secondary glazing can be shaped, making it suitable for most arched window applications. The ability to arch secondary glazing makes the visual aesthetics unobtrusive and discreet and allows homeowners to thermally and acoustically treat shaped windows.
"Many people opt for Secondary Glazing to minimise heat loss and external noise levels. We were thrilled to be asked to install Secondary Glazing for the rest of a property after the success of our first installation. The fact that the client returned to us is a testament to how well Secondary Glazing performs in terms of acoustics. We anticipate that the Secondary Glazing will also improve thermal insulation during the cold winter months, reducing cold draughts and energy consumption, ultimately leading to lower energy costs.".
