Arctic Glaze install bespoke secondary glazing to help minimise heat loss for a Grade II Listed Castle located on the outskirts of Chesterfield.
A Chesterfield-based homeowner contacted Arctic Glaze to discuss how our range of bespoke secondary glazing could help minimise heat loss and increase safety for traditional lead lined single glazed windows. Single glazed windows provide a traditional aesthetic but offer little thermal insulation, they can let vital heat escape making homes cold and increase heating costs.
To help minimise heat loss, we recommended the installation of Lift Out and Horizontal Sliding Secondary Glazing with 4mm Toughened Low-E glass. To treat the large feature windows on the staircase, we designed and installed coupled and stacked Lift Out Secondary Glazing.

Minimising heat loss and reducing energy costs is often a priority for our customers. In addition to optimising thermal insulation, the homeowner was concerned about the safety of the low-level windows in a newly decorated nursery. The nursery features several low-level windows with 4mm float glass, the listed nature of this property prohibited the removal of the traditional glass.
With a risk of children leaning or falling on to the windows, we specified toughened glass to increase safety. The horizontal sliding secondary glazing installed within the nursery features a lockable push button. To prevent the windows from being operated by young children, the push buttons were manufactured and located at a higher position on the window frame.
When heat loss and external aesthetics are a concern, we install the secondary glazed system as close to the primary window as possible, this installation method is best suited to provide enhanced thermal insulation and provides a truly unobtrusive external aesthetic.
"We were delighted to be invited to install our range of bespoke secondary glazing for this Grade II Listed Property. Our secondary glazing is designed to help homeowners minimise heat loss while retaining the character and charm of their period properties. The homeowner was delighted by the aesthetics and thermal performance gained, as a result, we have been invited back to the property to survey and install and aditional 38 secondary glazed window systems".
