Arctic Glaze’s range of custom Secondary Glazing is designed to provide enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation while protecting your home from unwanted intruders. Increasing thermal insulation will not only make rooms feel notably warmer, but it will also lead to reduced energy consumption making your annual energy costs lower.
Our range of Aluminium Secondary Glazing is specifically designed to help increase thermal insulation by as much as 65% – this seals in the warmth while preventing cold draughts from entering your home. In addition, reducing cold draughts and keeping rooms at a constant temperature will prevent your boiler from “overworking” this will save energy resulting in lower energy consumption and cost.
What is Secondary Glazing?
Secondary Glazing is a slimline aluminium window that is installed behind your main/primary window. It works in conjunction with your primary window to block noise, prevent cold draughts and increase security. Multiple styles are available, making it suitable for all properties, including listed properties and commercial buildings. Secondary Glazing is available in over 200 RAL colours allowing it to match the style of your home. The slimline aluminium frames are durable and when installed correctly, provides a discreet external aesthetic.
Secondary Double Glazing is available with different types of glass, allowing it to be customised to meet your requirements. For example, for acoustic performance, we recommend installing an acoustic laminated glass, or for optimum thermal performance, we advise installing 4mm toughened low-E glass.
How To Increase Thermal Insulation with Secondary Glazing?
If thermal insulation is a concern, Secondary Glazing with Low-E glass will create warmer rooms while reducing energy costs. In addition, the installation of Secondary Glazing acts as an additional barrier to prevent cold draughts. Minimising or preventing cold draughts will substantially improve thermal insulation. To provide enhanced thermal insulation, we recommend installing the Secondary Glazed system no greater than 80mm away from your primary window. This creates an insulating air cavity between your primary window and the Secondary Glazed Unit.
Over time un-maintained period timber windows often warp, this creates small gaps in the frame which allows cold draughts to enter your property. Cold draughts will pull warm air out of your property, resulting in a lower/colder ambient temperature. The addition of Secondary Glazing will create a seal preventing cold draughts and help lock in warm air.
What are the Benefits of Installing Secondary Glazing?
Alongside providing outstanding thermal insulation, Secondary Glazing will also reduce noise entering your property and help to protect it from forced entry. Adding an additional layer of glass to your home or commercial property will help protect it from the elements and can lower energy costs. If your property is Listed, the addition of Secondary Glazing will help preserve your period windows making it a sound investment.
