A complex project where Arctic Glaze’s knowledge and experience of Secondary Glazing systems helped to make a lasting, positive impact on this client’s life.
We were contacted in order to assess whether the installation of Secondary Glazing would combat the noise pollution from a busy road, or whether their recently installed triple glazing units were the best they could expect in terms of keeping noise out.
This was a sensitive subject for the client, who themselves had very sensitive ears. The client had Asperger’s Syndrome and with this, one of the challenges of is a heightened sensitivity to noise and increased sensitivity to changes in their surroundings.
This outlined the scope of the project, to ensure maximum sound insulation with the most discreet Secondary Glazing systems.

After assuring the client that Secondary Glazing could provide an improvement for them, we then had to assess the best possible solution. To do this, we had to find out the combination of the glass used in the triple glazing system. With the client unaware, we did some digging ourselves, contacting the company that installed it and finding out directly. In this case they had used 4mm toughened glass throughout the triple glazed unit.
From this point we knew that the best solution to combat noise pollution would be a 6.4mm acoustic laminated glass. We found on surveying this project, that we had the crucial reveal installation depth of 150-200mm glass to glass that is optimum for acoustics which in combination with the 6.4mm acoustic laminated glass would give the best chance of dramatically reducing outside noise entering the property.
Using a varied combination of Secondary Glazing designs across 12 windows, we created a house that became a very different place in terms tranquillity.
We had to wait a week or so after completion to receive the client feedback as they weren’t present during the installation. It can be a very disturbing time for a person with Asperger’s to have strange people in the house making changes, so we worked around them to install whilst they were out of the property.
Once they returned, we were delighted that the client gave us the thumbs up and we were over the moon to have helped improve someone’s quality of life by using our experience within the glazing industry.
We are finding more and more cases of clients that are not getting the results they expected using triple-glazed units often down to the fact that it cannot create the optimal air gap where sound is distorted.
